Introducing Baldwinsville Chiropractor Dr. James Dougherty

“Simply put, I was a skeptic… For years I suffered with allergies. I was told it was just seasonal and doctor after doctor prescribed me numerous different drugs.”

Then one day I visited Dr. Bowen's office for my very first chiropractic treatment. After a few adjustments, I had relief from my constant runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes!

I worked as a personal trainer in my early twenties. I had strong interest in natural approaches to creating health. I researched the principles of chiropractic and it seemed to be a perfect fit for me. I always thought about how people continually lose their health and had to rely on drugs. There had to be a better way. Chiropractic sends the message of health from the inside out and I wanted to part of this.

I graduated from Suny Cayuga with a Math/Science degree. I transferred to New York Chiropractic College in January of 1995. The challenge of Chiropractic school was great with some semesters with 28 credit hours. It was very exciting and challenging at the same time. I really didn't realize the depth of my education until i was in practice and had to communicate with other health care professionals. I was well prepared.

My philosophy in practice is to educate my patients about how nervous system dysfunction can lead to poor health. Symptoms are not the best indicator that your health is in jeopardy. That's why I thoroughly evaluate our patients nervous systems for dysfunction. Patients usually come in with complaints of low back pain, neck pain, headaches etc...But realize that other health issues resolve with correction of their nervous system like constipation, allergies, asthma etc... The most rewarding aspect of our practice is in helping practice members get there quality of life back by improving there health.

Dr. Dougherty Asks some important questions of interest to Baldwinsville residents - Chiropractor Baldwinsville Dr. Dougherty Asks...

Could a chiropractor put an end to bedwetting?
If bladder control seems elusive, consider chiropractic. If spinal bones are interfering with nerves that control your child's bladder, plastic sheets, alarms and other methods simply add to the embarrassment. Baldwinsville parents are often amazed (and relieved) that chiropractic can be so helpful. Learn more.
Do nerves actually get pinched?
Chiropractors recognize two types of nerve disorders involved in subluxation. The least common is a pinched nerve that diminishes nerve supply to an affected organ or tissue. More common is the irritated nerve (facilitative lesion) which overexcites nerve communications to an affected organ or tissue. Chiropractic care has been shown to help with both types.
